Beyonder makes a deal with Mephisto and agrees not to destroy the cosmos if a hero can sustain his life’s purpose.   He chooses Spider-Man and frees Zarathos to torment him.  Spider-Man overhears plans for murdering Kingpin.  The Beyonder runs out of patience with the universe and wishes to destroy it. Mephisto offers him a challenge.  Spider-Man will be Mephisto’s warrior and Zarathos will be Beyonder’s.  Used.
