His powers were obtained by a mark in the shape of a star that gave tremendous capabilities to its bearer. This seemed to grant unlimited forces to its wielder to defeat top caliber adversaries. The Star Brand has evolved over the years into new storylines and different pieces.
Nightmask (Keith Remsen) first appeared in Nightmask #1 and is a more enigmatic character with a mysterious past and powers that are not fully understood. He has the ability to enter dreams of others and twist the reality of them, using his powers to help or hinder those he comes across. He can also project false realities and illusions which don't exist in his foe's visions and use limited dimensional travel at times. Nightmask is depicted as an intriguing mystical figure sealing his identity behind a mask.
