What Are Good Comic Book Buys with Lesser-Known Heroes First Appearances?

Everyone knows about Spider-Man, Wolverine and Superman of course, but what about our less known comrades that help thwart off evil?  Will they ever get their time in the sun and fifteen minutes of fame?  You'll have to dive deep into your collection to see if you picked up anyone of these issues many years back.  All it takes is a new movie or series that rises in popularity to light a fire under these young evil fighter's futures.  It's not too often a superhero can gain DeadPool's success in such short time, but let's ponder these two unknowns to see if we can buy comics to add.  If you read the last Comic Book Information blog you may have guessed, we are talking about Speedball and Darkhark.

The Amazing Spider-Man Annual #22 First Speedball

The first appearances of Speedball and Darkhawk in the Marvel Comics universe may possibly be a significant moment in the superhero genre in the years to come.  Both characters made their debuts in the late 1980s (early 90's), and soon gained popularity among comic book readers for their unique powers and compelling backstories to some degree.   Speedball, also known as Robbie Baldwin, first appeared in The Amazing Spider-Man Annual #22 in 1988.  Being alongside Spider-Man and Daredevil helped his initial debut before starting off in his own comic book series entitled "Speedball" soon after.  As a teenage superhero with the ability to bounce around with kinetic energy, Speedball brought a fresh, comedic and colorful dynamic to the Marvel Universe with his brilliant bubbles.  We learned to love him and experienced his growth as a person while discovering and trying to control his powers more efficiently.

On the other hand, Darkhawk, also known as Chris Powell, made his first appearance in Darkhawk #1 in 1991.  Darkhawk is a more mysterious and brooding hero, who gains a powerful suit of alien armor that gives him superhuman abilities when using an amulet he discovered.  This amulet allows him to shoot off dark energy blasts at his foes while his suit grants super durability and strength.  His origins are tied to a secret organization and a cosmic conspiracy, adding depth and complexity to his character.  Darkhawk became a growing fan favorite for his intriguing storyline and visually striking design.  Can his future be brighter?  Time will tell.

DarkHawk #1 First DarkHawk Appearance

The introduction of Speedball and Darkhawk marked a new era of diversity and innovation.  Speedball's lighthearted, visually attractive colorfulness and humorous approach to crime-fighting provided contrast to the more serious and gritty heroes of the time.  Meanwhile, Darkhawk's darker more mysterious backstory appealed to readers looking for a deeper complexly layered hero.  Both characters helped expand the Marvel Universe and introduced a new generation of heroes to young readers.

Will the first appearances of Speedball and Darkhawk be significant moments in the history of superhero comics?  These two heroes brought fresh and innovative perspectives to the genre, and their popularity may still continue to rise and lead to comic book price appreciation.  With their unique original powers and distinctive personalities, Speedball and Darkhawk have become beloved characters in the Marvel Universe, even if they don't reach Batman status.  Stay tuned and please visit CycloneSale.com to view our various comic book selection.
